Understanding Tele-groups

What telegroups are:

They are a learning/support model that works. With a high rate of inter-activity, telegroups allow be participants to learn rather than simply listen to teaching.

  • They are convenient. Time is our most precious commodity. Telegroups save not only transit time but the time wasted before and after "live" presentations.
  • They are short, concise and on target. By their definition, telegroups, conducted over a telephone bridge line with all participants calling the same number, begin and end at an exact time. It is recommended that telegroups do not exceed one hour. This means that the leader/facilitator pays close attention to helping participants "bottom-line" what they have to say. This is also true, of course, for the leader.
  • They are for everyone. Telegroups need not be exclusive to one location. They can easily reach participants across the hall or around the world. Anyone who has a phone can participate.
  • They save money. Renting a bridge line can be as low as $10/hour for up to 150 people. With no cost for room rental, refreshments, transportation, or wasted time, telegroups are one of the most economical learning mediums available. Bring expert leaders from around the world to your group with no transportation/board/room costs.

What telegroups are not:

  • Chaotic. Protocol for checking in and speaking within the group is quickly established. There is order and a solid learning/participation environment.
  • Boring. The lively discussion by a diverse group who bring a variety of experiences to the conversation make telegroups one of the most exciting learning opportunities available today.
  • Unaccountable. Group participants check in with the leader upon arrival. Attendance records may be kept. Certificates of completion may be awarded. Tests may be given via email or on-line. Notes from the group are frequently emailed following the telegroup.
  • Impersonal. It is amazing how fast people develop relationships via telegroups. There is something about the anonymity that encourages people to share and become involved at a deeper level than they might in person and face-to-face.
