Perhaps it is because I'm essentially a writer that I frequently challenge my coaching clients with "writing homework". For instance, I asked a client who is searching for a new career to write about her perfect day at work. In a book I had given her she discovered another thread to this exercise which is to write about the job from Hell and the job from Heaven. She did all of the above and made some wonderful discoveries about what she REALLY wants in a career (and didn't know before) and what her boundaries will be so she can do other meaningful things in her life also.

I asked another client who is growing her own business to write "What Success Means to Me". Once again she had some interesting insights as well as some ideas to propel her to achieve greater success in her business. I led a third client to an Artists Way teleclass (send an email to mloujohns@aol.com for information on this) where she is writing "morning pages" (three pages of writing every morning). Through this practice she is healing very old, very deep wounds, finding a voice for now, and expressing her creative self.

There is great power in words!

One of my favorite coaching exercises is to write "101 Things You Want to Have, Do, Be in the Next 5 Years".

I write my monthly "wins" (successes) on a white board that sits in front of me - a reminder of my victories. I also write my goals and see them daily, my personal mission statement is taped just inside my Daytimer. My dear husband frequently tells me he loves me but it is still extra special when he writes it down in black and white. Words, words, words.

How do you use words? Do they show up as Gremlins, saying negative things to you during the day? Are they affirming both to you and those around you? Do you respect their power? Do you surround yourself with wise and positive words? How will you use the power of words today?

Your own words are the bricks and mortar of the dreams you want to realize. Your words are the greatest power you have. The words you choose and use establish the life you experience.
